Founding Product and Research

Nirva

Chelsea Coe is Founding Research & Product lead at Nirva, an AI companion designed as a piece of jewelry, made to be worn every day and to understand the life of the person wearing it. At Nirva, she is helping shape how a deeply personal kind of technology can earn people’s trust, feel as natural as something you’d choose to wear, and fit meaningfully into their lives. She has spent her career at the intersection of human behavior and product design, most recently as Head of Research at Headspace and before that leading design research at Fjord. With a PhD in political psychology, Chelsea brings a deep understanding of trust, belief, and decision-making to the question of how technology can better serve people, and she believes the most important work in research today is making sure that as products become more intelligent, they also become more human.

Insights of One: Designing AI for Self-Understanding

What happens when the research subject and the audience for the insight are the same person? Building AI for self-understanding forces a shift from designing for segments to designing for one. Drawing on research leadership at Headspace and building Nirva from zero, this talk explores the design and product choices behind personal insight, and what it takes to help people understand themselves.

Key Takeaways:

1. Designing for one changes everything: n=1 demands different research and product choices.

2. Building AI that finds insights for people makes us rethink our own craft as researchers.

3. Helping people understand themselves means designing for curiosity, not just accuracy.
