Hitting Selection Criteria That Matters Most: The New Age of Supplier Reputation

Better, cheaper, faster. As validated by the 2023 GRIT Insights Practice Report – quality, price, and speed continue to be top selection criteria buyers evaluate in their suppliers.

NewtonX recently ran a voice of customer and competitive benchmarking study which revealed data quality as the first or second important decision-making factor for enterprise organizations and consultancies conducting B2B research, with 30% to 39% saying “Finding the right professionals” was “Very Important.”

The 2023 GRIT Insights Practice Report also revealed an emerging trend: reputation beats relationship. As organizations rise from the pandemic and maneuver still-unpredictable markets, buyer-supplier relationship no longer holds as strong a place compared to supplier reputation. Customer loyalty is hard won.

Relationship fell from 50% to 37% (from 2019 to 2022) as a key factor in supplier selection—while reputation quietly increased from 42% to 43%. This demonstrates that buyers are increasingly willing to try new suppliers if existing partners can’t meet their needs.
